“I had done all I could. No man is well pleased to have his all neglected.” - Samuel Johnson

I’m working on one of my favorite projects in a long time—one of those ideas that is simple, that will leave the world better than it was, and that helps artists. This has been a long-term mission of mine, and it has broken my heart over and over again. It’s difficult work, as any worthwhile effort is, but rewarding. And since it’s not a “scale at all costs” venture-backed company, it involves finding not just people to make it happen, but good people. The right people. This means the calls and meetings feel different; lighter. The small talk is the point. Each meeting determines the future of something deeply cared about. The project is more about desire and passion than it is need. It’s just a really cool thing we want to see come to life, and it will be a great and profitable business that anyone involved would be proud to be a part of. If it gets off the ground but doesn’t work out in the end, its absence would be deeply felt—it would be missed. It matters, and not just as a way to make money.
